About Me
I am an interdisciplinary scholar trained in sociology and public policy. My work examines individuals’ experiences with employment- both job loss and job changes- and how economic and social inequalities are reproduced via systemic constraints on employment mobility. In particular, I am interested in the employment experiences of Black workers in the American South.
I come to this work by way of rural North Carolina where generations of my family were once sustained by a thriving manufacturing community. As those jobs became scarce, so did the opportunity for my relatives to improve their life chances. My desire to interrogate processes that elucidate inequalities observed in the social world are rooted in this lived experience.
